ADAPT seminar

Speaker: Dr. Sharanya Majumdar (Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Professor, Department of Atmospheric Science - Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, University of Miami )
Topic: "Exploiting new satellite wind data types for tropical analysis and prediction"

Room: Rm529 Walker Building (refreshments served)
Time: Thursday, May 30, 2019, 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Abstract:
Although vertical profiles of temperature and moisture are readily available from satellites, vertical profiles of wind are relatively lacking. For tropical cyclones and other tropical oscillations, it is expected that wind data, especially near or in regions of deep convection, will have a positive influence on numerical analyses and predictions. A combination of Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs) and Observing System Experiments (OSEs) will be presented for the Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS), and preliminary OSSE studies for a potential future space-based Doppler Wind Lidar will also be shown.
